There was once a real reason why big agencies had such a stronghold on anyone serious about marketing their company - but somehow that has fast become something of the past.

When I started out in agency world, it was the big brand agencies who every company wanted looking after their brands. Fast track 20 odd years, and now it's the small agencies and startups that are completely disrupting the market.

When you wake up and race to the office each day, not out of necessity but because you are can't wait to turn on your laptop and hang with your team - you know you are doing something right.

My job isn't what you think. Yes, I own a marketing company, but given that we have a true flat organisational structure, I don't manage anyone, or anything for that matter. Instead, my days are full of creativity, writing, celebrating, brainstorming and general engagement with the people that work at Marketing Eye.

We are all on a journey in life, that is quite often than not, dictated by our desire for greater experiences or money. The latter is an interesting mark as it can either defeat you, or make you, and few people find the happy medium whereby they have enough to live a good life, and to give to others at the same time, without making money their scorecard.

Experiences are to be had. Sometimes people hold themselves back from their full potential, only to find disappointment in the end result. Why are they holding themselves back, when they could simply let go a bit and find their way into the place they were always searching to go?
Being an influencer on social media and owning a magazine with a decent distribution has resulted in our office often being inundated with products that people want us to test.

I am sure having offices full of millenials is also a draw card for many brands, and the fact that everyone is active on social media.
Friday never comes fast enough, not because I don't like my job, but due to the fact that my brain is trained to think that there is an euphoria to do with weekends.

In truth, my weekday brings me more joy than any weekend could, and while I work tirelessly on my many projects, it is the satisfaction I get from each and every project I finish that really has me pumped.

Marketing Eye goes from strength to strength and we will have our biggest year ever in 2017/18. This is especially sweet due to the fact that so much work has been put into getting the company into the position it is now.

As I embark on an ongoing improvement phase in the business, I note that there is one thing that I am doing wrong, that many other companies fall prey to.

With all of this talk on what some people do to reach their career goals in Hollywood, it seems that we have forgotten the 'real' world.

In the real world, to get a big pay rise, you have to work really hard, ensure that the company is profiting from your work at a rate that is commensurate with industry standards.

As you have seen, some people get paid more than other for various reason:

Yesterday was the last day of an internship for a young man who had chosen Marketing Eye Melbourne as the place he was going to learn and work out where he wants to be after he graduates.

Last days are always hard. Firstly, if you have finished everything that you were working on, you tend to just do task that have to be done, rather than projects that may benefit your internship and future employment prospects. Secondly, it's a day of reflection. What did you get out of your internship? Was it worthwhile? Are your colleagues friends of the future? Do you want to work at the company that you did your internship at? Have you chosen the right career path? Are you more confused than ever?

This morning, I decided to have breakfast at my favourite cafe, Hobba Prahran before heading to the office. I sat at Hobba with a big smile on my face. I have spent the past month with my teams in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Atlanta and it has been amazing.

The energy in each office, stand up meetings, pride in their work, on-boarding of clients and in general, their 'nice-ness' is beyond anything you would ever expect in an office environment.

I had a particularly stressful period of time. Hackers had attacked our business and we were leaking cash like no tomorrow. I handled it great for the first three days, then I fell apart. I felt like it was all too much. My life is full and to add that type of stress to my life, I felt overwhelmed. It was certainly challenging.

My team could see that I was stressed, and on my last day in the Melbourne office prior to heading to the US, the team wanted to celebrate my birthday. I asked them if they would mind if we didn't celebrate my birthday and celebrated just Christina's instead.
What makes our agency special? It's a question that I am asked frequently, and it always makes me think "what is it that is our secret sauce?". What makes us different from the marketing company down the road?

After relaying my 'two days from hell' to a confidante, who had an interesting reply, I realised the reality of my world.

To put it in context, I replied to a text message with: "Life has to have challenges and your feelings have to be hurt to be alive. I wouldn't change a thing."
