Cleaning out some old boxes on the weekend, I found a few things that took me back down memory lane. In particular, something that showed me that where I am today, was where I was always going to be.

We each look at our lives and depending on how clear our memory is or in most cases, our version of events, we may sometimes realise that we were meant to be where we are, or that due to a sliding doors moment, everything changed for the better or worse.

One of the first things we think we realise about successful entrepreneurs is their toys; the big house, the fast car and their luxurious holidays - that everyone else just dreams about.

But this isn't exactly the case. In fact, the most successful people I know are not in fact flashy or anything alike. They still live in the house they bought when they first started out, don't update their cars yearly, and often have a holiday house or choose experience holidays over the swanky likes of St Barts and St Tropez.

If you truly want to be successful, then you have to look a little deeper at the people you aspire to be like. Those telling you how rich and successful they are, are more often not. In fact, those keynote speakers that spruik their monetary achievements, often are making more money out of speaking than out of what they proclaim made them rich and successful.

When you first start a business, many of us don't have a manual, any formal training and are generally learning as we go. This style of taking a business from startup to fully fledged successful business, comes with many hurdles - some that are too large to overcome.

When life throws you curve balls, sometimes it's best to do nothing. I know that doesn't seem like the most obvious solution, but I have just learned that it can be true, at least for me.

For almost two months I have been unwell every day. It has gotten to a point, that whatever is happening in my body, put me permanently in bed for 5 days straight. No computer. No television. No phone. No people around. Just my dog who has definitely developed cabin fever and is dancing at her own shadow right now, because she needs entertainment.

What is old, is new

If you are constantly challenged by the fast pace of change, then don't worry - so is the rest of the world. We are all in catch up mode and it isn't something that too many of us like, until we catch up and realise that we were worried about absolutely nothing.

Gone in a second

I've never thought that far ahead. It's not because I don't dare to think about the future, but more to do with the fact that I am in the present, working through one 'to do list' item after another.

I've had the month from hell - in a good way. Each morning I wake at 4am and I do social media for a client for the first hour, then connect with the US for the next hour - all before hopping in the shower.

I'm celebrating 18 years as an entrepreneur and I can safely say that there are still a few more years to come.

Yesterday was the last day of an internship for a young man who had chosen Marketing Eye Melbourne as the place he was going to learn and work out where he wants to be after he graduates.

Last days are always hard. Firstly, if you have finished everything that you were working on, you tend to just do task that have to be done, rather than projects that may benefit your internship and future employment prospects. Secondly, it's a day of reflection. What did you get out of your internship? Was it worthwhile? Are your colleagues friends of the future? Do you want to work at the company that you did your internship at? Have you chosen the right career path? Are you more confused than ever?

Less hustle, more bustle. That's what I say. I know most entrepreneurs talk about how they hustle their way to success. I can safely say, I have not. In fact, I dream of being a hustler, but fall dissimile short of this in every way possible because I am one of those people who can tell you what I do if you ask, but won't broadcast due to the fact that I am actually shy.
