How to know if you are a top-notch marketer
But there is a list of things that brilliant marketers do that really make them standout from the the rest.
10,000 hours of service
It's true. To become a good at something you do need to practice and put in the hard yards, having lots of experiences along the way. Those experiences are what shapes you as a marketer. If you know how to fail, you will know how to succeed. If you drop the ball 100 times, the 101st time you will not drop that ball because you know why you did it the other 100 times, and what to watch out for next time. While young marketers bring so much to the table, and can be one and two hit wonders, it is the experiences that you have that will give you knowledge to predict what is to come.
Work, life balance
It was so old school to work those long hours to become successful. What smart marketers knows is that they have to work hard while at work, but it is the balance that they have in their life that will give them the freedom to come back to the office refreshed, with new ideas and a clear head. There is no point on running at empty.
Bring people along with you
Over the years I have noted that truly successful people bring others along with them for the ride. That means surrounding yourself with capable, trustworthy people. If you can find a solid team of people to support your vision as a marketer and you get buy-in from your team, the world is your oyster.
Passion and Interest
Both are equally as important. You may be a passionate marketer who wants to reach the top, but if you are not interested in marketing and don't actively read and learn along the way, you will never hit that top spot. That means that you can't block off engagement on one social media medium in lieu of another, because you need to understand both - equally.Don't 'hate on' people
Understanding psychology will be your game changer. Your insight into what makes people tick, and learning to 'like' the good in everyone is imperative to climbing the marketing industry ladder. If someone isn't nice to you or rubs you up the wrong way, then think back to why they are doing it. It may be that they don't like themselves or who they see in the mirror. There may be something you can learn about yourself through their set of eye's. Importantly, whatever is bringing out those feelings in a person, is your nugget of gold. To have people respond to you like this, is something that you will embrace to either 'win them over', stand them to the side, or forget about them totally.Try it on - marketing technologies
Not every marketing technology is for your company. In fact, there will be a suite of technologies that you will use that will probably be around 20 including APPS, but if you spend all your time going through every single technology that competes with each other, you will fall prey to being on a time wasting endeavour. Instead, stick to 20 of the best, then make them your platform to be more successful. Don't forget to use a project management technology and find ways to do everyday tasks, especially the big one's faster. There's a technology nearly for everything these days, so make sure you look to Tech Crunch to know the goings on.No matter whether you are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or a country town in rural Queensland, you can be at the top of your marketing game.
