How I’m Becoming a Higher Performing Marketer
For the past 8 months, I have been going to pilates. It’s something that I never did more than ‘on occasion’ for most part only when I arrived from a long-haul flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles. The hangover from the past few years has slowly disappeared and after the first quarter last year, I started to rethink life.
“If nothing changes, nothing changes”. I’ve said this before in my marketing blogs as it is something that I live by. If I feel myself being unhappy with something, I think about what I am doing and how I can change my part in that equation. Habits die hard, but there is nothing worse than living in a hole that you keep digging. Eventually, you won’t be able to breathe.
Life gave us all curve-balls in the past few years, and during that period, I somehow lost the love I have always been able to find in marketing. But that changed mid-way through last year and my passion has come back. I’ve embraced everything new and started to innovate and “believe” again in the future as a careered marketing professional.
It helped that I won “Innovator of the Year” at the prestigious WiT Awards for accomplishments in developing Robotic Marketer marketing strategy technology platform. It also was fortuitus that ChatGPT came out in the last quarter of the year, because that really got me excited. As a marketer the opportunities are endless. As a tech entrepreneur, we can now create a loop. Robotic Marketer for marketing strategy and execution programs integrated into ChatGPT for content lines, “how to’s” and training and an automation tool like Hootsuite for placement. This all goes back into Robotic Marketer to form the perfect circle for marketing automation.
Performance is a choice
As humans, we all have the innate desire to improve ourselves and reach new heights in our personal and professional lives. Whether it's improving our work performance or achieving personal goals, we constantly strive to raise the bar and be the best versions of ourselves.
Statistics show that setting high goals and striving for excellence can lead to greater success and satisfaction in life. In fact, a study by the University of Scranton found that only 8% of people who set New Year's resolutions actually achieve them, but those who do are ten times more likely to achieve their goals than those who don't set any. I know that when I write down a goal, I am much more likely to achieve it.
Work performance as a marketer
When it comes to work performance, raising the bar can lead to numerous benefits. For example, a study by Gallup found that employees who are engaged and have high levels of job satisfaction are more productive, have better attendance records, and are less likely to leave their jobs.
Additionally, when employees are motivated to perform at their best, they are more likely to take on new challenges and develop new skills, which can lead to career advancement and higher salaries. In fact, a study by the Harvard Business Review found that employees who consistently set and achieve high goals earn an average of 30% more than their peers who don't.
So how can we raise the bar and improve our personal and professional performance? Here are a few tips:
-
Set specific, measurable goals
Rather than setting vague goals like "get in better shape," set specific, measurable goals like "lose 10 pounds in the next three months." This makes it easier to track your progress and stay motivated.
-
Challenge yourself
Don't be afraid to take on new challenges and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. This is where real growth and development happen.
-
Develop a growth mindset
Embrace the idea that you can always improve and develop new skills. Instead of viewing failure as a setback, see it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
-
Take consistent action
Consistency is key when it comes to improving your performance. Set aside time each day or week to work towards your goals, even if it's just a small amount of time.
-
Energise
Now this may sound a little strange, but your energy not only helps you perform better, it drives everyone else around you. If you can get your energy right, your performance will follow.
-
Take time to meditate
After sitting with my mentor last week, I found out by overhearing a conversation that he had taken up meditation. Well, his performance is shown in clear monetary terms as a person in the top 20 richest people in the country. Meditation clears your mind and allows for you to think.
Raising the bar in our personal and professional lives can lead to greater success, satisfaction, and fulfillment. By setting specific goals, challenging ourselves, developing a growth mindset, and taking consistent action, we can all achieve our full potential and be the best versions of ourselves.

Performance based mindset
Building a performance-based mindset requires a deliberate effort to change your beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours can optimise your performance.
An athlete uses their performance to drive how they train. Likewise, if you think about your performance as a marketer and take on that mindset, success will come.
Here are some steps you can take to build a performance-based mindset:
-
Understand the power of mindset
Your mindset is your mental attitude or inclination that shapes the way you approach and respond to situations. By developing a performance-based mindset, you can improve your performance and achieve your goals.
-
Set clear goals
Goals give you a clear direction and focus, which is essential for building a performance-based mindset. Set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
-
Embrace a growth mindset
A growth mindset is the belief that your abilities and intelligence can be developed through hard work, practice, and dedication. This mindset allows you to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, and persist through setbacks.
-
Focus on strengths
Identify your strengths and use them to your advantage. Building on your strengths can help you achieve better performance and gain confidence.
-
Stay motivated
Motivation is a key factor in building a performance-based mindset. Find ways to stay motivated, such as rewarding yourself for progress or finding a supportive community.
There are several models of change that can be useful in building a performance-based mindset. Here are a few:
-
The Transtheoretical Model of Change
This model describes five stages of change, from pre-contemplation (not yet considering change) to maintenance (sustaining change over time). By understanding where you are in the change process, you can identify the strategies that will be most effective for you.
-
The Prochaska and DiClemente Model
This model builds on the Transtheoretical Model by adding six key processes of change, such as consciousness-raising (becoming aware of the need for change) and self-liberation (believing in your ability to change).
-
The Social Cognitive Theory
This theory emphasises the role of social and environmental factors in shaping behaviour change. By identifying and changing the environmental factors that influence your behaviour, you can build a performance-based mindset.
Building a performance-based mindset requires a deliberate effort to change your beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours. By setting clear goals, embracing a growth mindset, focusing on strengths, staying motivated, and using models of change to guide your progress, you can achieve optimal performance and reach your full potential.
