It's extraordinary what we as humans are possible of
Stress has never been my strength. I have never been able to handle it as well as I would have liked. I prefer to hide when I am stressed than to actually manage what I am going through. Life has many twists and turns and each of them has a lesson for us to learn. Sometimes, we don't want to learn that lesson, but don't have a choice.
Being challenged is part of living life. No-one goes through life without challenges especially if you are an entrepreneur. There are going to be good days and bad days.
I think for quite some time I got so use to the good days, that to be once again faced with obstacles and things to overcome is wearing me down. I could do with a load off my shoulders. My staff are incredible because they see this, and make steps to make my life easier.
Business in itself is easy to manage when there are no other influences. However, I have dedicated more than 50% of my time in the past year on charity, and that has been all consuming and much harder than I ever imagined. However, doing charity makes you feel good inside. If only you change one persons life, or inspire another, that is enough. You have in fact done your job.
I want to be the best entrepreneur I possibly can be. That doesn't mean being Zuckerberg, however, I would like to be as charitable as him. It doesn't mean I need to be like anyone else actually at all. What it does mean is that life throws you opportunities and I want to take them and do the best I possibly can with each and every opportunity. I don't want to walk around with a false sense of life, staying in my little circle and thinking this is the best it's ever going to get.
I want to be out there and explore each and every opportunity, putting my best foot forward. The ability to expand your knowledge, challenge yourself, fail and hopefully win a few times - is exhilirating and what the life of an entrepreneur is all about.
I never want to take this journey for granted. Getting through the next few weeks, and then going back to my passion for developing the business and building technology is where I want to be. It's the place I feel most comfortable and the area of my life that I love most. When the conference is over I know that I will get back to my rythm and everything will be fine. I have a lot to do in the meantime and certainly before Christmas, so it is very important that I breathe a little more and don't put so much pressure on myself.
A lot of time was put into the conference lineup. Some last minute changes sends me into a complete and utter mess because I don't know how to deal with it. It's not 'my knitting' to deal with issues like this. I am completely out of my comfort zone and am losing control and sometimes that is good. It teaches you stuff that you need to know. You cannot control everything and knowing that I am a control freak (although I honestly thought for many years that I was not), I have to learn to let go.
If you have time next Tuesday and feel like hopping on a flight or live in driving distance to Townsville, it's well worth your while to pop up to Townsville to see North Queensland's Entrepreneurs Conference. The speaker lineup is fantastic and you will be inspired. I need it as much as many of you do. That sense of not being the only one that goes through what I do is something I need right now to be reminded of. The conference lineup will certainly give me that.
