What every office needs…
It’s my second week in the Sydney office of Marketing Eye and although all the staff are lovely, there’s one staff member who has really captured my heart. Pippa, Chief Barking Officer, although she doesn’t bark, in fact ironically for a dog she’s as quiet as a mouse.
There’s something soothing about having a dog in the office, she encourages regular breaks to give her a pat and makes you smile seeing a wag of a tail when you walk in the door. She makes the office laugh when she plays with her ball or stares longingly at you for a chip at lunch time.
I read an article in the Sydney Morning Herald recently titled “How dogs at work are 'strengthening relationships in the office” and it really resonated with me this week. The article discusses how there’s mounting evidence that dogs improve workplace morale, increase team co-operation and employees are healthier, less stressed and generally have a better mental health than non-dog friendly workplaces. And it’s not just Marketing Eye that has noticed the benefits of dog-friendly workplaces recently major Australian brands such as Peter Alexander, Cotton on and General Pants have changed their policies allowing dogs into the workplace.
The owner of Marketing Eye Mellissah Smith, is a keen promoter of an open, flat company culture and I feel Pippa is a biproduct from that. Allowing pets in the office gives the company a comfortable, open and flexible culture where employees feel valued. When interviewed recently the employees all agreed that dogs keep spirits high and help create a better sense of community and connection, and Pippa definitely does that in the Marketing Eye office.
I’ve seen it first-hand, Pippa has strengthened the relationship between all of us in the office, it’s lovely to watch each and every one of the employees at Marketing Eye bond with Pippa in their own way. She’s definitely formed a strong bond with me, sitting under my desk quietly while I learn the ins and outs of Marketing Eye in my first week and I’m looking forward to my time here at Marketing Eye with my new best mate Pippa.
