The Monday Review: What's marketing got to do with it?
An action packed weekend, filled with laughter, good friends, great food and a few bottles of french Bordeaux, it is fair to say, I am ready to get my teeth sunk in to the week ahead.
While it may seem all fun and games, it isn't always and is definately dependent on how you look at it.
I don't see work as work unless I have to do something that I really don't like doing i.e. fill in forms. Hate that!
On the weekend, I tested my theory on retail and was pleasantly surprised when I walked into Sass and Bide, tried on a couple of things and walked out a couple of thousand poorer. The dresses were beautiful and so were the sweaters. The service was good although I unfortunately have walked out with a white dress that has dirt all over it and now I am worried I will never wear it. This kind of thing often means it ends up sitting in the cupboard gaining dust.
I did feel proud to be supporting an Australian label though and that was the whole purpose. I am about to head to Europe and the US and I know that I will shop, and the reality is that the money goes offshore and does nothing to support our local economy.
Saturday night my good friend Tess and I went to see Bourne Legacy. I never thought anyone could replace Matt Damon in this franchise, but the unassuming Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz steamed up the screen with chemistry and some serious action that had me fall madly in love with the lead actor. I can't wait for the next movie.
Sunday, was a day to get things done and that I did. As I have written before, I am the Sunday Marketer and that means spending hours on end looking at the business, our marketing plans and the strategy of some of our key clients. Marketing Eye continues to grow at an exponential rate and with that I forsee issues with ensuring that the whole production line runs smoothly. I never wanted to be set up like an advertising agency, but the reality is, quality control is everything and delivering ontime is paramount.
After a discussion with my younger brother we decided that it was time for him to sell his business and come work at Marketing Eye as a Digital Production Manager. This is exciting for Marketing Eye and brings an equally passionate digital marketer into the fold.
I know with family business, there is always issues, but its something that makes sense when you have an international business about to explode. Someone watching your back, who will be there at 2am in the morning if need be.
It's exciting times and I know our Marketing Consultants will really appreciate the support.

21 Aug 2012Hi Sunday Marketer, enjoyed reading your blog. Congratulations on the business and it's exceptional growth. Great news to hear that your younger brother is jumping on board to assist in the company's growth. It can be difficult at times working with family but at the end of the day they generally know us best. Have fun.
