It’s a page 13 3/4 page story in The Sunday Telegraph that’s caught my eye today whilst reading my beloved Sunday papers and it has reminded me the value of online networks, people who have significant brand names and the media.
Shane Warne, one of Australia’s highest profile cricketers, is forging a career in gambling and ranking it in. That is, ranking it in on Twitter. 41985 Followers and millions of readers who pick up the newspaper, are following Shane Warne’s tweets – including me (at least for today!).

He isn’t talking about too much of interest and is driving the tweets to his famous friends which is why he has been given a dedicated page in the weekends The Sunday Telegraph. Even Lara Bingle has been tweeted this week with “hey crash how you going? thaks for good luck message!!!” by Warney. His English isn’t so great, and spelling even worse, but it doesn’t matter. It’s tweeting and anything goes!

Everyone from Jemima Khan, Delta Goodrem, Andy Roddick, Dannii Minogue, Jamie Oliver, Lance Armstrong, Keith Urban, Ian Poulter, Lily Allen, Lady Gaga, Lara Bingle and Richard Branson are all being tweeted by Warnie.

Does this man have too much time on his hands? Is he bored? Has he resorted to tweeting rather than texting? Does he have an addiction?

Perhaps, but more likely, he is smarter than the tweets he writes and understands the value of his brand and building a gambling mecca online with his www.888.com. I would say all 40-odd thousand followers have clicked onto this website, some would have tried it out and others like me, would have spent a minute of so reading what Warney’s involvement is and clicking off, back into cyber space.
