Reigning in the millennial genius
Two years ago, I hired a family member in my business. It was the best decision I ever made, simply because for selfish reasons, I was able to see her more than I would if she didn't work for me.
Ashleigh Cameron started out fresh from high school and while studying a Bachelor in Commerce Majoring in Marketing and Human Resources, she chose to come and work at our Marketing Eye Sydney office in the social media department.

I wasn't sure how she would go, and at first I was a tad concerned simply because of her age, but I really didn't have anything to worry about.
She has become an expert on social media and in particular on Twitter. I thought I was reasonably ok at Twitter only to find out that after a month of Ashleigh focusing on Twitter, she knew a lot more than I did. Then of course, I did what all self respecting bosses would do - I passed over the reigns. Now I have very little to do with the company social media and I like that.
By passing the batton on, I have in fact empowered her to take ownership of this role in the company, and one that put us in the unique position that we are in in the market.
I have never shyed away from revealing the fact that our website and social media were our game-changers in our business. Taking us from a small business into a fast growth, dynamic and multi-faceted marketing, technology and media company.
At 18 and 19, she writes content like a seasoned professional, never missing a beat. Sure there is the odd typo - but who doesn't do that? She is creative, pulls out the main points of any blog that she is sharing and knows where to find exactly what our audiences are looking for. It doesn't matter that she is one of those millennials who is self-starting and really proud of what she does and the responsibilities that have been given to her.
Today, we shared our lunch, chatted about family and Christmas, talked through her recent University exams and discussed where we both may be in a few years time. I am truly blessed!
