How positive thinking can make you successful
Is your glass half full or half empty? Is your mind and thought process holding you back from your full potential? Can positive thinking make you successful?
These are question’s every person should ask themselves as they embark on a new year, set goals and learn to live in a very different environment. The world is not how it use to be and that is a fact, but how are you going to adapt, cope and live your best life?
If you want to know why your mindset determines your ability to achieve success, you don’t have to look past a personal experiment. If you think negatively about doing something, is the outcome and the experience of doing that task providing you with the ability to finish it more successfully or less?
The reality is simple: Positive people have more energy, confidence and belief in themselves, often setting goals and placing more effort in achieving them.
In an era where positive psychology is being lauded as essential to a happier and healthy life, it comes as no surprise that Martin Seligman’s study on positive psychology highlighted how much this way of thinking complements traditional psychology in giving concrete ways to overcome stress, achieve more, and lead a more fulfilling life.
Negative thoughts and emotions on the other hand like fear, anger and disgust, have a way of pushing us toward instinctive action and leading us down a negative emotional path. It can also cause us to isolate ourselves, which can negatively impact our ability to use collaboration and coaches to improve our chances of achieving success.
How positive attitude leads to success:
Positive attitude lends itself to positive idea generation
When you are not riddled with negative thoughts, and your constantly think on the positive side, your mind opens up and helps you think about things that you may have otherwise thought unachievable.
Negative thought:
“I can’t do that because there is someone better than me doing it or I might lose”
Positive thought:
“I’m going to try that because I believe that I can do it. If I am successful, that is awesome. If I am short on the mark, I will try again and next time I might just get it.”
You will stress less with a positive mindset
As a person who is often under the pump, when I stressed out I know firsthand that I am less likely to achieve my goals or it will be a lot harder on the road to completion. The Yerkes-Dodson Law stress graph highlights that stress can not only cause health issues and effect living happy, productive and long lives, but it can aid performance to a point, then when it becomes too high, performance decreases. This can give many entrepreneurs and career-oriented folks the wrong sense of comfort in a ‘stressed state’ because in part they feel that they are getting the job done and under pressure doing things that a relaxed state may not lend itself to. However, the tipping point pushes stressed out individuals to a point where they are no longer effective, they live on fear, their health deteriorates, and their minds are flattened unable to remove thoughts past a scramble of fear and distortion.
Negative thought:
“I have a deadline and I don’t have enough time to complete my task. If I don’t complete it, I will fail and lose face.”
Positive thought:
“I have a deadline and there are steps to achieving it. If I don’t make it through every step, what is the worst thing to happen? It’s completed tomorrow.”
Confidence is second nature when thinking positively
A famous Henry Ford quote, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right,” emphasizes how much attitude determines success or failure.
Confidence plays such a crucial role in being successful and happy. If you have a positive attitude towards everything you do and encounter and most importantly, believe in yourself, success comes naturally.
Negative thought:
“I can’t do that as I am not tall enough.”
Positive thought:
“I will give it a try. You never know how high I can jump.”
Positive mindset helps you make better decisions
Imagine making all of your decisions not based on fear or negative thinking, but instead with a can-do, will-do, anything is possible mindset. If you start a business and think you are going to fail, you will. If you fear going to a meeting, it will show on your face, people will lose confidence in your capability and the rest will be history.
Especially this time of year, having a clear mind and positive mindset is imperative to having a successful year ahead. If you think 2022 is going to be the worst year of your life, it will be. But if you think it’s going to be the best, good things will come your way, challenges will be easy to overcome, and you won’t fall apart at the first obstacle you face.
As I am faced with business and marketing strategy planning, I am thinking about what is possible for my business, not what isn’t. I see the sky as the limit. I’m empowered by my thinking, not put back. Making the right decisions and putting the right strategies in place is doable. I know that because my thoughts are on success, not failure.
Negative thought:
“I can’t grow my business 20% because no-one knows what COVID will do to my business.”
Positive thought:
“I will grow my business 20% or more because I have a plan in place for every scenario and I will actively communicate this plan to my team and share the company’s goals. Together, anything is possible.”
How positive psychology is going to make me more successful
It’s Tuesday 4th January 2022 and I am in 100% belief that this year is going to be the best year of my life. It’s going to be the year that I use all of life’s lessons and make better decisions based on a positive and confident approach to life and business.
Negative thought:
“2022 is going to be very hard. Not sure what’s going to happen.”
Positive thought:
“2022 is going to be the best year of my life. I am going to do a personal plan and a business plan and marketing strategy with tactics to achieving my goals so that I am successful.”
