My Internship Experience at Marketing Eye
Before commencing my internship at Marketing Eye, I was at a loss of where I wanted to take my career. I finished my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2020, majoring in media and communications, hoping to find a career in marketing down the track. However, I didn’t completely understand what a career in marketing or a media role would entail. At the end of 2020, I visited a careers counsellor, naively assuming that all my curiosity and fear going into a professional work environment would be miraculously cured. After the session, I did not feel as confident as I predicted I would.
At the beginning of 2021, I began my master’s in marketing and digital communications. I felt I had found my passion in marketing, however, when I was asked by friends or relatives what exactly I would desire to do in my marketing career, I felt still quite unsure what I would exactly be hoping to do.
I found this internship job application one day when I was pondering what I was going to do and how I was going to find my dream job. It felt like fate, and I luckily started the role a week after applying. The first month of the internship occurred virtually and was the perfect way to begin this internship. Even working from home, I felt inspired, challenged, and excited by every workday. A month into my internship, I was given the opportunity to work in the office. I have been fortunate enough to witness talented marketing consultants in their work environment, which has inspired and motivated me to continue my journey in a marketing career.
Industry experience is the most valuable tool when navigating your way through the post-university confusion.
The tasks I have undertaken have brought to life the marketing concepts I studied at university. Marketing Eye has allowed me to experience many tasks that are associated with a marketing role, from SEOs to blog writing to research for clients. From having the experience to try out all different marketing tasks, I have solidified my passion for blog writing and found my strength in that field. The marketing consultants guiding me through my internship gave me many opportunities to write on an array of different blog posts. I would research the topic and learn about different marketing trends and values; simultaneously learning about marketing concepts while improving my writing skills.
I remember the careers counsellor asking me if I had collected a portfolio of my writing. I felt overwhelmed that I hadn’t even thought to do this when job hunting. However, since commencing my internship at Marketing Eye, I have written a blog post almost every workday. I now feel well-equipped and confident that I have now formed a portfolio of written work I am proud to show at a job interview. This has boosted my confidence immensely and equipped me with a feeling of professionalism when taking the next step post-university in my career.
I am most grateful for the confidence this internship has given me, I now feel capable and self-assured when applying for jobs in this field. I highly recommend the Marketing Eye internship to any marketing university students or graduates feeling lost in which path to take next. This experience has been the ultimate deciding factor in where I hope to take my career.
