My Experience as a Marketing Intern.
I started my internship at Marketing Eye when I had just finished my first semester at University. My aim was to find a part-time internship where I would be able to learn and enhance my skills in the professional world. I had applied to Marketing Eye without any expectation of getting accepted for the role. When I received the call of confirmation I was ecstatic, as this was my first achievement in a new country. Marketing has always been my field of interest and so a Marketing internship was extremely exciting.
On the first day, I was expecting a stern supervisor who would give me a list of a countless number of tasks to finish by the end of the day. But on the contrary, the office and all the people here were so welcoming, they were very patient while teaching me all that I had to do. In the course of three months I have learnt about things that I had never heard of; even after being a Marketing student! For example, SEO.
With the blogs I wrote, I learnt something new about the topic through the research and the feedback I received from the Marketing Eye team. I was not very good at writing blogs at first but I feel with constant practice I have improved, though not perfect. One thing I admire about all the Marketing Eye employees is acceptance. I have seen them patiently listening to all the inputs interns have and also implementing these suggestions in their work. The work pattern here is so organised that I never realised that I am working in such a fast-paced, busy Marketing Agency. With daily briefings and instant feedback, my supervisors ensured I learn how to create the best quality of work each time.
Although my University has given me exposure to many practical aspects of the field, I feel that when I started working as an intern, I truly understood the importance of time-management and speed in the professional world. With Marketing Eye having offices globally, I gained knowledge about international markets by creating content and helping with research for clients. Through my internship I have realised how Marketing is misinterpreted to only be commercial. Working for non-profit organisations, taught me how important it is for these organisations to market themselves correctly in order to generate awareness for their cause.
My learning curve throughout the internship has been moving upward. I have tried my hands at content creation, creative writing, data analysis, research, using new software and even acting!
I was assigned tasks that I enjoyed doing but also challenged to work harder and study more about marketing. Working on content for a variety of different industries, my time as a Marketing intern has been filled with new and exciting experiences. The knowledge that I have gained will definitely help me understand academic concepts better through my practical experience at the company. While it can sometimes be daunting to develop content for totally unfamiliar industries, I feel that I have improved quite a lot in terms of writing and communication.
I am someone who struggles to initiate conversations and talk to people. In these three months, I have learnt how necessary networking is to survive cut-throat competition in every industry. My mentors and fellow interns made it a point to talk and communicate with me regularly. All the women in the office serve as perfect examples of girl power! They manage multiple things at once be it family, studies, work, etc. I am extremely grateful to have finished my first internship with them. The effort that everyone put to welcome me into the team is overwhelming and extremely precious. In addition to a better skillset, I have also earned great mentors and friends.
I strongly encourage aspiring marketers to do such internships because it not only enhances future prospects but also helps in building industry networks. Upwards and onwards from here!
Thank you Marketing Eye
