Today I started writing a series of blogs on our various websites: www.marketingeye.com | www.marketingeyeatlanta.com | and now www.marketingeye.com.au giving readers of these blogs an insight into who I really am. I am going to try and be raw and real, with no secrets or pretense. Feel free to give any feedback on whatever you read.

Inquisitive

I am inquisitive. I ask the "why?" every single time, usually inside my head. I don't just accept things as they are. I think about why they are as they are, or why someone has said what they have said. I think about why people do the things they do. Why they are one way with one person and another with the next.

When I see a painting, I think about why the artist chose to paint the picture like they did? What was going on inside their minds when they were painting away? Why they chose to sell their painting where they did? What they really thought of the painting that they did?

I am fascinated by design. Today I walked into Restoration Warehouse in Atlanta. It is one of the most beautiful retail buildings in the world. Each piece of furniture or fitting has a unique story to be told.

Further on my journey today, i walked past Moncler and stood watching the window display. The robots with the mannequins dressed in jackets was so creative I wonder how anyone could have come up with it. It not only made me stare at it long enough to think that in itself it is a piece of art, but it also had me completely in awe of the designer. That's a real talent.

Inquisitive people have a strong desire that borders on obsession. They want answers - especially one's that are not so obvious.

Good marketers are born to be inquisitive. They need to be inquisitive as to why someone would buy a product or service. Why someone chooses one brand over another. If they are not inquisitive, then they usually are not the best marketers.

In July last year #24yrold asked me to buy her a bike as a bonus for her performance as a Marketing Manager with our firm.

I didn't hesitate, as I know that if someone who works hard does exercise, they perform better and more efficiently than those who do not. Once the dollars and cents worked out, I was completely onboard.

The problem was that we were both in Atlanta, and if one chose to do something, the other usually followed suit. Afterall, there is no point in riding by yourself all the time, as it could be quite lonely and in some cases particularly in a city like Atlanta, dangerous.

One of my good friends is incredibly talented. She has worked for some of Australia's most successful fashion houses as a designer and a few years back decided that she wanted to start her own brand.

I am a big advocate for women that have a go. Her label and namesake Sophie Moran Inc is worn by celebrities, models and people throughout the world that fall in love with her simple designs, great fabric and the wearability of her product. The brand is fun, sexy and can be worn anywhere. It's also a great gift for your nearest and dearest.

Like many great designers, she started her business from her kitchen table and it is now seen in more than 70 stores around the world. Her marketing is simple. Facebook. She cannot make enough product to cater for the demand from the stores that stock her products and her friends. Facebook showcases her latest designs and who is wearing it with what.

All the models are friends who just so happen to be either famous (and fabulous) or incredibly good looking. You won't see any anorexia girls on this page. Just healthy, sporty stylish women that genuinely love the Sophie Moran brand.

This is one of her latest designs. Check out her Facebook page and let me know what you think! As an Australian fashion designer, she rocks - big time!

STC Foundation Dinner 2010

gorgio-armani-151x300I would like to thank the wonderful team at Giorgio Armani for kindly inviting me to the STC Foundation Dinner 2010 at the Sydney Theatre Company on Friday night.

Mary and her team at Armani are simply amazing. They have so much style and professionalism, that just by entering their store, you could learn a thing or two about how to ensure your brand is consistent across every touch point.

How do you present yourself?

You might remember a few weeks back I mentioned giving a presentation to a group of image consultants and stylists. Since then it seems I’ve been talking with loads of people about how difficult it is to maintain a fresh and stylish look. How you present yourself is so important in your career as well as personal life.
