Making a conscience effort to be the best version of yourself takes a lot of soul searching. It also takes a lot of strength as you have to look yourself in the mirror and work out what is working and what isn't. Where you can improve and where you don't have to.

About 3 or so years ago, I made a momentus change by looking deeply within myself and exploring what I could possibly achieve in this lifetime. I set goals for everything imaginable, including the life of my dog (check out Instagram account @thereal_pippasmith), my health, my family, my career and so on.

I broke up every area of my life and worked out how I could live it better than I have lived it before. And you know what, it mostly works. Except you will slip up like I did on a few things, but they will mostly be things of the heart where your reaction isn't quite what you would have planned for it to be. By slipping up, you have the opportunity to change and work on that area, while you keep developing yourself and achieving the goals set out in front of you.

For the past 4 days, I have been in rural North Queensland township of Charters Towers. The town has just over 6,000 people, but the catchment of its region extends to just over 12,000 and takes in neighbouring townships.

If you have read this blog for a while, you may have realised that I am a country girl. I grew up in rural North Queensland in a small township called Charters Towers, just over an hour west of Townsville. It seems like a million years ago now, as I have been living in big cities for the past 20 years or so. I currently reside mostly in Melbourne and from there I have built a multi million dollar international business. What I have realised about business is that the  more mature my business becomes, the more flexible I am with where I work from. It certainly has got me thinking about where in the world people can build successful businesses from and what are the hurdles that they must overcome if they are not located in a major city.

I've always been aware that I have all the things in life that are necessary to become successful; mentors, learning and development, financial stability, and a community... and the right mindset. But it wasn't always that way, and the first thing that you need to know about being successful is that you have to have the right mindset and belief that anything is possible. It takes so many parts to be successful, but I guess for most of us, it just starts with a dream.

I'm so busy right now. I am working very long hours and am in the office each morning before the sun rises. Not that I want to complain. I am doing something that I an incredibly passionate about and every single part of my business is going ballistic, so it's "time" to take it all the way.

When things go a big 'crazy' I call in the experts - my mentors. I ask them what they think about what I am doing and whether or not they think it will be successful. It's like having an educated bouncing board that have been there and done that.

For those who read my blogs, you may have read about the fact that I grew up in a country town in regional Queensland. Charters Towers was once called "The World" and for many still is. It's known for gold, cattle and country music, but to me, its just this quaint town more than an hour outside of Townsville, that I proudly called "my hometown".

Today, after a few emails backwards and forwards, I connected with an old childhood friend, Sonya Gough.

Last week, I received a tender document for some marketing services for the Charters Towers City Council. It's not normally something we would put in a tender for, simply because the scope of works is too tight and minimal, but I can't help myself.

It was placed on my desk by our Victorian State Manager, who thought that normally we wouldn't do it but maybe I may be interested in it because I come from Charters Towers. The sentimental value of doing something for a town that you love and have had the opportunity to grow up in, is just too much to refuse.
