My Experience as a Marketing Intern
I started my internship at Marketing Eye when I had just finished my first university semester. I aimed to find a part-time internship where I would be able to learn and enhance my skills in the professional world. I applied to Marketing Eye without expecting to be accepted for the role. However, when I received the confirmation call, I was ecstatic, as this was my first achievement in a new country. Furthermore, marketing has always been my field of interest, so a Marketing internship was exciting.
On the first day, I was expecting a stern supervisor who would give me a list of countless tasks to finish by the end of the day. But on the contrary, the office and all the people here were so welcoming; they were very patient while teaching me all that I had to do. In three months, I have learned about things I had never heard of, even after being a Marketing student! For example, SEO. With the blogs I wrote, I learned something new about the topic through the research and the feedback I received from the Marketing eye team. I was not very good at writing blogs at first, but with constant practice, I have improved, though not perfect.
One thing I admire and learned from all the Marketing eye employees is acceptance. I have seen them patiently listening to interns' inputs and implementing these suggestions in their work. The work pattern here is so organised that I never realised I was working in such a fast-paced, busy Marketing agency. With daily briefings and instant feedback, my supervisors ensured I learned how to create the best quality of work each time.
Although my University has exposed me to many practical aspects of the field, I feel that when I started working as an intern, I truly understood the importance of time management and speed in the professional world. With Marketing Eye having offices outside of Australia, I gained knowledge about international markets by creating content and helping with research for clients. Through my internship, I realized that marketing is misinterpreted only as commercial. Working for non-profit organisations taught me how important it is for these organisations to market themselves correctly to generate awareness for their cause.
My learning curve throughout the internship has been moving upward. I have tried my hands at content creation, creative writing, data analysis, research, new software, and even acting! I was made sure that I was assigned tasks that I enjoyed doing, but with it, I was asked to do things that challenged me to work harder and study more about marketing. Working for industry leaders to charitable organisations, my time as a Marketing intern at the Marketing eye office has been filled with new and exciting experiences. The knowledge I have collected from this work will help me understand academic concepts better as I have gained hands-on practical experience in the industry. While overcoming challenges like working for totally unfamiliar industries or conducting extensive research, I have improved quite a lot in writing and communication.
I am someone who struggles to initiate conversations and talk to people. However, in these three months, I have learned how necessary networking is to survive the cut-throat competition in every industry. My mentors and fellow interns made it a point to talk and communicate with me regularly. All the women in the office serve as perfect examples of girl power! They manage multiple things, family, studies, work, etc. I am incredibly grateful to have finished my first internship with them. The effort that everyone put into welcoming me into the team is overwhelming and highly precious. Accompanying a better skillset, I have also earned great mentors and friends.
I strongly encourage aspiring marketers to do such internships because it enhances prospects and helps network with people in the industry. Furthermore, it is essential for us students to collect as much knowledge and experience as we can get while studying.
