It challenges me to talk about my roots because there are some things you keep personal. I have grown so much over the past 42 years, as we all have, and I don't particularly like that shy, intimidated young girl that I once was. And there are many people that remember that girl well.

I visited my first boss, who reminded me of that. He said I had changed so much. He was right. He remembers me as the Catholic girl from Charters Towers, who was so shy that I use to put my finished work in my in-tray hoping miraculously that someone would take it out and give it to the right person.

My absence for 10 days from this blog has been pertinent to where Marketing Eye is heading into the future. Last year we committed to giving to charity, namely through using our expertise, money and resources to build The World Incubator in Charters Towers.

I've made a few trips up North to speak with locals, potential startups for the incubator, Politicans and alike. I grew up in Townsville and Charters Towers, so this project is especially important to me.

It's been an interesting visit to say the least.

The realisation that everything isn't as it should be is startling. It is also very confronting. People are literally fighting for their survival.

For once this year I had a new year’s resolution that had nothing to do with food, exercise or money…. which is a nice change … it seems so often we focus on external perceptions of what we should or shouldn’t be doing.

For me, this year is about Abundance. Its about sharing a lot of what I know, giving all I can in all areas of my life, and helping others achieve and reach their goals as well.

I’ve always felt that I’ve lived with abundance, even as a kid I had the sort of personality that led me to help, share, and try to look at the “bright side of life”. But this year I decided to step it up a notch, and actively consolidate my abundance philosophy across all aspects of my life and business in a tangible way.

Here’s how I’m doing it, and you can do it too:

NOTE: This blog is a guest feature written by our Marketing Eye Atlanta office.

The other day Marketing Eye Atlanta, as a team, decided to take the Myers Briggs personality test. What an eye-opening experience this was for all of us. We came to the conclusion is that our team is very diverse. Before taking the test some personality traits were obvious, but others were hidden talents that had not been discovered until completion of this test. Not only was the test great for gaining more insight into our co-workers personalities but it was valuable for personal reflection.

This blog today is written by myself and is only my opinion, so please do not crucify anyone that works for me, as they all have different opinions, each of which I not only appreciate but respect.

I was kindly invited to a number of International Women's Day events today and declined, as I do every year since the first time I went to one and watched a number of women stand up and talk about "how good they are" or "how the glass ceiling existed as they climbed the ladder."

It disgusted me

Our extraordinary client Fabricare Center is Marketing Eye's featured guest blog of the week. The exceptional Dry Cleaner is opening their second location in the Sandy Springs area at the end of March. Check them out if you live in Atlanta, they offer free pickup and delivery.

Improving the quality and care of your garments has and will always their top priority. Not only have they been focused on expansion and having a wider reach within the community, but they have recently undergone a branding refresh. After 40 years of service it was time for a new look and feel. Yes, their is new branding and a new location, but the same great service still exists.

I returned from a trip overseas on 15th January 2016. I went to work to say hello to my team, then I went home without checking my emails. I hadn't in fact checked my emails in days. I really wasn't meant to be back so early and unlike many entrepreneurs, I have learned to live without checking emails and social media daily.

It's easy to be jealous of your employer, particularly when they have attained a certain level of success and have all the fancy things that come along with that; flashy cars, mansions, holidays, friends, invitations and the like.

In particular, this is true if you are at a certain age similar to your employer, or you have an inflated sense of who you are and what your actually capable of. But the reality is if you are feeling jealous, then it's time to go. Take that jealousy and go out and start your own show. You will find it more fulfilling and without as much angst until of course, you experience the same situation yourself.
