And I totally agree. When I first started Marketing Eye, I built it from a perspective that there was no global player in SMB marketing. While this makes perfect sense, it didn't reach the pit of what I really wanted to achieve as a business person, or a leader for that matter. I also had not thought it through.

"I was doing something from a very real, a very honest place, so I think that's why I was able to build an audience," said Gwyneth Paltrow to Fast Company in a recent interview posted on Facebook.

We are an odd company at times. While we are definitely a marketing company, we are also media, a tech company and a educator. With 15 new clients being on-boarded in Australia in October, we desperately need a journalist to take over our magazine, and write content across multiple disciplines.

We have been very privileged at Marketing Eye to keep our key team for almost the entire duration of the company. What that has done is establish a firm foundation of people who understand the business, it's vision and what expectations are key to ensuring its ultimate success.

Christina Kortesis who has run the Melbourne office without any interference since the company started has been the backbone of the business. She has continually shown what a good leader should do. Her nurturing skills and ultimate knowledge of marketing is second to none. She has empathy and understands the predicaments that our clients face, as well as that of her own staff.

On the weekend I went to dinner with a few girlfriends, then a couple of them went on to a nightclub.

I personally couldn't think of anything worse. Why in your mid-forties would you want to go to a nightclub? To pick up? To get drunk? Really?

Then I thought a bit more; I know lots of old, rich men who go to nightclubs, particularly when they are in New York, London, Ibiza, Mykonos etc. There seems to be a growing trend. Perhaps I didn't notice it so much when I was younger at how many old men there are in nightclubs. I am talking 50's, 60's and god-forbid, 70 year old's hanging out with 20-somethings, trying to lure them through wing-men that are more connected usually due to their ability to source drugs or find rich people to pick up the tab.

The choice to do an internship or not is really up the to the individual in Australia. In Europe and most of the US, it is compulsory.

There have always been these war stories of how interns have had to do the lamest of tasks; dropping off drycleaning, cleaning the kitchen, filing for days on end. But it's not all war stories and I can assure you that our interns at Marketing Eye do not have to do that at all.

A lot of clients ask me about “Marketing Automation” because they’ve heard the buzzword and wonder if it’s something they should be doing.... and as with everything in technology nowadays it can be hard to keep up (especially if you’re a small business and marketing is not your area of expertise).

Marketing Automation is used extensively in the US retail market, but in Australia we are a little way behind. There is so much more that marketers could be doing with the technology - and early adopters in Australia will be streets ahead of the competition.

You are currently walking down the road and you come to a cross roads; if you go one way, you may be successful, if you go the other, you are not so sure. What do you do?

Of course, none of us can answer that question because "may be successful" is not a certainty and if you go the other road, you have no idea, but it could be good, or it may not be.

Life is a bit like that.

When your company is growing as fast as ours, you often find yourself short of staff. We feel as though we are constantly in catch up mode, yet somehow we deliver for our clients and continue to produce work of a high standard.

Behind the scenes it's a different matter. There is pressure and a constant reminder of the fact that there are so many things that still need to be done.

I am a strong believer in culture and finding the right fit. I handed over the reigns a long time ago to staff so that they can pick their own colleagues and it works mostly, but doesn't when they too find pressure in finding a person fast. They miss the small steps that always tend to be the most important out of the mix.

If you are an entrepreneur, and not a someone who thinks that you are always right, then you would realize just how many mistakes you make - usually on a daily basis.

We are all human and mostly we shrug off our mistakes and learn from them.

Entrepreneurs are renowned for making mistakes because when most of us started, there were no courses on how to be an entrepreneur, and mentorship was harder to come by then it is today.

10 Mistakes that many entrepreneurs tend to make:

Entrepreneurs are often driven by an idea, and many of them have not only a great idea but a way in which they believe will help make it successful; and that includes marketing.

The problem is that not all entrepreneurs are born marketers. Some may be born sales people and perceive this to be "marketing" but there is a distinct difference and once an entrepreneur is completely across this, only then are they are to make the right decisions for their businesses.

The world is changing dramatically and marketing in particular is a career that is becoming increasingly difficult to keep on top of.

As a company, we are invested in training and developing our people to ensure that they don't lag behind with a majority of marketers today. This is further endorsed by the fact that in comparison to the US, the update of marketing automation in Australia has been dissimal. It's darn-right embarrassing that marketers or whoever is holding the budget have not yet adopted marketing automation as a way in which to feed the sales funnel and give sales people hot leads rather than cold ones.

Outsourcing marketing has advantages and disadvanges.
