I am not a storyteller, not in the sense that I can engage a crowd verbally; have them hanging off my every word through great wit and charm. I am no Gatsby and certainly not great. I have friends who hold the floor when they speak – command it in fact – but that is not in my nature to do so. I like to listen so I can come back to my desk and write about what I have heard.

That is not to say that I don’t do public speaking, I am quite reasonable when I am on topic, but I am a storyteller in a different sense, more hack than raconteur and certainly no Peter Ustinov – the greatest raconteur that ever lived. Author John Green (The Fault in our Stars) says it best about many writers, “Writing is something you do alone. Its a profession for introverts who want to tell you a story but don't want to make eye contact while doing it."

Walking along the canals in Amsterdam this morning, I came across this piece of art. A park bench made out of old books.

It is a piece of art and each book has a story that it wishes to tell. Each book was put together by people who loved what is inside and wanted to share it with others. Each page is full of dialogue from authors all over the world, wanting to explore their inner most thoughts, passion, and view on something that they believe is meant not just for themselves but for others around them.

We each have a story to be told - don't we? As I sat in a coffee shop with my friend Huib today, we discussed some interesting life stories that people have shared with us in public forums. What we believed was a good story and some that we thought could be told in a different way, or perhaps should not be told at all.

$8 million dollars for clever PR?

The David Jones saga continues and I have to say, that I probably am of the opinion that David Jones and Mark McGuinness are being played just so some young girl can make a few million. More than she ever would have made in her entire career.
