As we approach yet another public holiday, marketers are playing catch up. What if the world was watching?

A late afternoon flight back from Sydney saw me do something I never do - and that is watch a movie from Sydney to Melbourne. The movie in question was The Circle. Emma Watson, once again excels in her role with a social media company as an intern come celebrity leader, showcasing the fickle, yet real world of social media fame.

In the media or life in general, there is an expectation for everyone to be flawless. On social media, everyone appears impeccable - but when one investigates deep down the vault of reality, life appears far from what we see on our screens or on the news stand.

So why do so many of us feel the need to drive in this lane towards perfection? Are these expectations doing us more harm than good?

Anyone can buy followers and likes on Instagram, but what does that achieve? The numbers don’t mean a thing for sales when they have come from robots who don’t need their product and don’t even have credit cards! (ha..ha…)
When I read this statement from Jay Baer, I am reminded about how important this is for each and every client we work for, and for ourselves for that matter. 

So many companies still don't run a social media calendar, and yet it is so easy to do. With Hootsuite, Buffer and Coschedule, the whole process has become efficient, effective and results driven. All you have to do is experiment. While we read blogs that tell us the best time in which to post, if you do the maths and everyone posts at that time, then clearly it is the least effective time to post. Standing out from the crowd, within reason is important.

Over the weekend, I was looking at our business plan, which is updated regularly, and I realised that I have absolutely no idea of what is to come. Like many entrepreneurs, we like to plan the year ahead, and have over-arching 5-year goals.
