Ready to be an entrepreneur?

Over the past few weeks, a friend of mine has approached me to give them some tips and guidance on being an entrepreneur. They have been a seasoned professional, in the same field for 20 years, and now they feel they are finally ready to take the leap.

The problem is, they don't know where to start. Well, they do, but they haven't quite grasp how much they have to do to get the ball rolling.

When you decided to apply for your first job, you knew that there was a chance that your potential employer may not a) like you b) think you have the right skills c) consider you as a candidate d) work out what you bring to the table.

Most probably, you pondered one of these things or all of them before you went to your first interview. It may have created some nerves, or made you anxious. Perhaps, you did the opposite, and sounded overly confident and a tad cocky, when in fact  you were shaking in your boots.

Challenges that we face today, are the making of us tomorrow. How we cope under extreme pressure and instability, really acts only as an indicator of how well we can weather a storm.

No business in the world has smooth sailing every day. It may look like some do, but they don't - I can assure you of that.

I am in a privileged position these days, as I work 'on' the business and not 'in' the business. I have changed from being a business owner from 25 years of age to 30, then an entrepreneur from 30 to 41 years of age, and now I am definitely an innovator. Our direction is ahead of the curve, and at the forefront of marketing globally. We don't look at our own backyard as our competitive landscape, but instead a global market that continually changes and with that, we need to adapt and forge ahead with new ways in which to do business.
