My disastrous trip to Brisbane

I'm a Queenslander through and through. Well, kind of. I am from an immigrant family who settled in Queensland, and even though I haven't lived there for 15 years, it is still a place I call home.

Marketing Eye began its journey about 13 years ago, and since then, we have built the business, as a team, into different States and Countries, which has been incredibly exciting. Who doesn't want to fly to New York for a business trip, or to Amsterdam? Even places like Atlanta and Los Angeles have their benefits. I certainly have a few perks up my sleeve from the many miles I travel, but it's not all glamour - and that is something most frequent travellers can attest to. In fact, there is little glamour other than what you see on Instagram and Facebook, and a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. A reality few of us a willing to admit let alone share.

Being a marketing consultant is insane

Being a marketing consultant is truly insane. Trying to explain what you do on a daily basis, is like talking another language to most people that are not in the industry - and for reason. We all work at different levels and few of us really talk to each other about marketing because everyone wants to be the top marketing expert that clients go to for advice.

I don't know about you, but if you have been a marketer in the same company or maybe only with one or two companies, for the past 5 years, you may just be thinking "what's next?"

Having a career in marketing is exciting. It is something that I have chosen for the past 25 years, and every day I love going to work. It's my passion. I am completely in love with the people who work for me. They are rockstars and every day they get better and better. Right now, we have a team of people who are winners. They have the right self-starting attitude and are competent. We are not second guessing anything they do, and their relationships with clients are second to none.

The big secret about my life

When you spend years soul searching, trying to figure out why God put you on this planet and what you are meant to do with your time, you can falter in a lack of understanding.

Mostly, the lack of understanding is of who you really are, and what is your purpose. Many people espouse to know what their purpose is, but how many of those same people can put their hand on their hearts and say, that this is why they were put on earth, and follow through with that mission until the very end?

We are about to embark on our last quarter of the financial year, and like most companies, we are seeking to accelerate our sales performance and leverage our current marketing structure and assets.

Marketing Eye is one of Australia's most recognisable marketing consulting firms due to our online performance. We were early adopters of everything from websites through to social media use. We know that every single month search engine optimisation must be a priority, and blogging keeps our prospects coming back time and time again.

Marketing Eye's growth is a mixed bag

Marketing Eye's growth is a total mixed bag, but one that is neatly packed.

In light of the fact that a business plan is in place to accelerate the expansion plans, it has become even more evident that our investment in technology will catapult our ability to expand the business in a fast, manageable pace.

Marketing Eye has been a pioneer of the outsourced marketing department concept. We brought the concept to the forefront some 13 years ago, and have since forged a new market where companies can outsource to one company with no freelancers their entire marketing needs.

The ultimate Christmas Party

I'm not one for a party as I quite like my own company and that of my closest friends. Other than the odd glass of champagne, I don't find drinking to be my vice either. So, when it comes to Christmas, if only everyone would agree that all the money involved should go to charity, I would be in my element.

I guess if I posed this question to my team, they would possibly agree, but this year has been a big one and they deserve their moment of letting loose and enjoying each other's company outside of work, celebrating their success.

The ruthless fight for rural town survival

My absence for 10 days from this blog has been pertinent to where Marketing Eye is heading into the future. Last year we committed to giving to charity, namely through using our expertise, money and resources to build The World Incubator in Charters Towers.

I've made a few trips up North to speak with locals, potential startups for the incubator, Politicans and alike. I grew up in Townsville and Charters Towers, so this project is especially important to me.

It's been an interesting visit to say the least.

The realisation that everything isn't as it should be is startling. It is also very confronting. People are literally fighting for their survival.
