How to deal with sociopath employees

Psychology is a big part of marketing and company culture. Understanding people helps you navigate how to manage them, and how to work with them. Much has been written about narcissist employees and employers, but it is the sociopath verging on narcissist that is really someone a company needs to watch out for.

Over the weekend, I was looking at our business plan, which is updated regularly, and I realised that I have absolutely no idea of what is to come. Like many entrepreneurs, we like to plan the year ahead, and have over-arching 5-year goals.

When someone has a problem, drop everything

A huge wake up call happened to many people I know last night, and it was a shocking reality. When someone needs you, they need you. They may not come outwardly in saying what is the exact problem or what they are going through, and that is something we all need to be reminded of.

It is my belief that every business should have some sort of exit strategy. That may mean selling your business in the future, or it may mean handing it over to the next generation. The reality of business, is no-one lives forever and it's always good to go into business with a plan in mind, and that includes covering such things as ill health, death, a sale of the business, or passing it on to the next generation. Perhaps you want to list your company on the stock exchange or expand it overseas and sell off areas that don't make sense long term.

I'm a marketer. It's been my choice of career for almost 25 years. I am the first to put up my hand and say that I know very little about anything other than marketing - and even with that, it's a daily challenge to keep up to the many changes in dynamics, technology, and human behaviours that affect our ability as marketers to do a job well.

Over a year, I speak with hundreds of marketers and potentially, more than a thousand entrepreneurs. More recently, interviewing people for roles with our fast-growth company has meant that I have been having conversations with quite a few marketers, many of whom have tried their hand at being entrepreneurs. In fact, more than 30 percent of the marketers in the latest bunch have started a company, and during the job interviewing phase, have said that the company was successful, but either exists no more or is put to the wayside.

Let the results speak for themselves

As an avid technology enthusiast and entrepreneur, findng new and upcoming technologies that may be instrumental in either Marketing Eye's or our clients future marketing campaigns is a passion.

Recently, one such technology asked for Marketing Eye's competitors, and did an analysis on where they sit from a digital perspective compared to Marketing Eye Atlanta. It was fascinating. Our company is a mere 4 years old in the US, and in year one, we realised that we outperformed all our competitors on Google listings/rankings and all areas of social media. It was something we were very proud of, as we don't spend all day pushing this medium, but a bit over 30 minutes in total including writing this blog.

When it comes to social media marketing, you need to consider one key word ‘valuable’. Ask yourself, what value does your social content provide your followers? Social media has become a huge part of our lives, so how does your content fit in with your followers’ lifestyle?

Why your marketing strategy is out-dated

It's not in your imagination, but marketing your business is getting a whole lot harder. What was once an easy to achieve goal, is now polluted by too many choices for both your customer and yourself, in the marketing mix.

As a customer, it is confusing and very few companies have fine-tuned the art of simple. We all learn at University to "Keep It Simple Stupid" - the KISS principal, but too many of us have forgotten that and perhaps we no longer believe it to be relevant. I do. Confusing the client, and our clients confusing their customers is a huge mistake and only when a customer identifies this do they start the breakthrough to achieving their next step towards achieving their ultimate marketing goal.

5 Uber Cool Employee Thank You's

Each year we search high and low at ways in which we can improve our business and company culture.

Like many businesses, we feel as though we have tried everything - and at times it works, and sometimes we quite simply fall flat on our faces.
