Marketing Strategy Blog - Page 48

Yesterday was a pivotal moment in my life. That is a big call I know, but it was a conversation with my mentor that I didn't realise would have such an impact.

I was rambling as I do about business, and explaining to him what I was doing - basically giving him an update. I had listened to him when he gave me some important, game changing advice,  and his strategy for my business made perfect sense to me moving forward, so the wheels are now in motion.

In fact, I was using this advice, and kicking some serious goals.

I'm proud of you

Then the bombshell. He said, "I am very proud of you."

I never look for praise, and while I do receive it from time to time, I suppose I never take it in. Two instances of late where I have, have come from my best friend of over 20 years, and of course, my mentor.

My father has passed

My father passed away a few years back and didn't really know what I did. My mother doesn't really know what I do. I am not the daughter that rings up and says "I achieved this today" and have been brought up not to skite about achievements. So, in some ways that has suppressed many of the accomplishments that have been made along the way. I don't talk about "winning" or "succeeding" or achieving a bucket list item to my family and friends.

In many ways, my biggest outlet happens to be this blog.

For the man that I hold in the highest esteem, and admire most in the world, to say that to me, made me pause. Previous to that we were talking about the fact that I didn't think I needed people to praise me or to be acknowledged for my work. He called me out. He said, "of course we all like to hear that we are doing a good job."

I thought about it, and in my mind, it matters only when it comes from the unexpected or from someone that means a lot to you.

I look up to my mentor

In this case, I look up to my mentor. I admire his business accomplishments, ability to always make time for friends and his family values. They are the things that I respect in a person. They are the things that I want to be myself.

It is true that I am kicking goals, but its only because I am listening to people wiser than I will ever be. They are so smart that I can only dream of having half their intelligence. Talking to him yesterday reminded me that the sky is the limit. I really have the ability to achieve things that I never thought were possible. On top of that, I have a great team behind me routing for me and our brand all the way.

For him to say that he is proud, meant something. He is right. From the right person, it means everything when you are acknowledged. How lucky am I to have such amazing people in my life? Blessed is all I can say.

When you are looking forward to the next year like I am, you can't help but think what is it that is going to make the next 12 months of your life more extraordinary and memorable then the last.

With so many things going on in the world; political elections, earthquakes, terrorist attacks - it's quite easy to get caught up in what is going wrong with the world instead of what is going right.

Have you ever wondered what it is like getting to first base, ready for the second base but never quite making the home run you hoped for?

As a female entrepreneur, I have big goals, and my dreams are not only something I think about often, I have carefully strategised the execution of a plan to achieve each and every dream I have had for myself.

It's not by accident that creative marketers are paid more money, are in greater demand and hold the key to a successful marketing campaign.

Some are born that way and can come up with a creative campaign on the way to work, other's like to spend their time being inspired by the environment in which they live in, and of course, the one's who are time poor and like to surf the net, find the internet a great source for inspiration.

I personally like a combination of both and collaborative creative ideas always seem to draw the best inspiration from each of the different sources.

If you are looking for inspiration online, here is where I like to go:

1. Behance:
This is a designers go to point for inspiration. Mostly the designs are clean and creative, and they cross many industry sectors allowing for creatives to be inspired by variety and relevancy which is very important.

2. Creative Boom:
There is a cross section of creativity on this site. It is inspiring and pushes boundaries while staying sometimes within the lines.

Last week was mammoth. I spent 4 days on a speaking tour of the Fraser Coast, promoting Marketing Eye's not-for-profit, The World Incubator, and innovation as a whole.

There are many lessons to learn when talking to crowds, and the first is to adapt to the crowd you are talking to.

We are quite the fancy pants of marketing of late and have delivered a business and marketing plan for our own company that is one of the best I have ever seen. We haven't focused on our old-style corporate internal document, but instead, a fully engaging interactive and KPI orientated presentation that has inspired our team to do more, be more and conquer quite a few goals.

Finally, I have a printed copy of the 2016/17 Global Marketing Strategy for Marketing Eye and it is being developed out to the point where every single item in the marketing strategy is given to a person who is responsible for outcomes.

It's particularly exciting given that usually we only share part of the plan, but this year, we decided to share it all - along with our profit sharing strategy for employees. It's time for many of our younger team members to start investing in houses or apartments, and they cannot do that without getting some real money behind them.

A good friend of mine recently was branded a "washed up, has been - too old for the business" by a young twenty-something man who thought that he would be able to tarnish her reputation in the PR field and perhaps gain some of her clients.

When hearing this story, which goes beyond what I have just written and focuses heavily on the fact that she is a woman, I find myself compelled to re-educate anyone around me that believes that this behaviour and thought-process is acceptable.

The pressure of growing your business is insurmountable with the number of areas that each business has to consider.

As a company, Marketing Eye has been a company who believes that growth is imperative to keep employees engaged, stay ahead of the curve and invest in areas such as innovation and technology – but this is all not easily funded.

I came across a company recently that sparked my attention: Kabbage.
